Jamu Lodge

The eco-friendly jungle lodge offers its guests comfort in cabanas or suites, and a variety of activities deep in the rainforest.

On daily expeditions you will get to know the green jewel of Cuyabeno with your local naturalist guide. Explore by canoe the tributaries of the Laguna Grande – home to the fabulous river dolphins, the majestic anaconda as well as playful monkey species. Take your binoculars, because high up in the treetops sit sloths, toucans and parrots.

Location

Jamu Lodge is located in the heart of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, 15 minutes downstream from the wonderful Laguna Grande. This unique location offers unspoiled nature. The hotel works closely with the families of the Siona indigenous community.

Jamu Lodge Day Itineraries

3 Days Cuyabeno Tours
  • DAY 1: Our excursion begins at the Cuyabeno River’s entrance, where we’ll also have an appetizing box lunch, then our naturalist guide will give us information about the Reserve and crucial advice so we can start the two-hour journey down the Cuyabeno river to Jamu Lodge.
You get your first glimpse of the rainforest during the canoe voyage, and you can see a variety of species, including caciques, orioles, and the extinct Hoatzin bird and depending on the weather conditions, you could also be able to view different kinds of monkeys and other jungle creatures. Jamu Lodge will be our destination by 4:30 o’clock.
We will bring you to your room to have a time to unwind. Following a nap, we will leave the lodge to swim and watch a breathtaking sunset in the Laguna Grande. Finishing the first day in the jungle, when we return to the lodge you will enjoy the dinner, then you can rest in a hammock or have a drink at the bar.
  • DAY 2: Your second day begins by eating an enjoyable breakfast. After that, we’ll go on a 3- to 4-hour walk through the main forest, during which the guide will inform us about tropical forests and medicinal plants. During the activity you can see small critters like ants or big trees like CEIBO.
After returning to the lodge for lunch and a rest, we’ll walk outside in the afternoon to observe the stunning butterflies and go swimming in the lagoon. If possible, we’ll be able to see the stunning brushed dolphins and take in the breathtaking sunset. We go back to the lodge for dinner after that.
We engage in nocturnal activities at night with the goal of finding alligators along the river’s banks.
  • DAY 3: After breakfast we set off in a canoe downriver for about an hour to visit a family from the Tarapuy community.
There we will be able to participate in the preparation of the traditional Yuca bread called Casabe, we will learn how to create this bread using forest resources, which will keep us busy all day. At around two o’clock in the afternoon, we’ll arrive back at the Lodge.
After lunch, we engage in relaxation activities. The day will close with a brief stroll into the main forest where we’ll look for nocturnal animals like spiders, geckos, and scorpions while also taking in the sounds of the night.
